More and more people are connecting their smart devices to systems such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa. A common question we receive: does Plugwise work with these platforms?
The short answer: not directly – and that’s a deliberate choice.
Local instead of cloud-based
Most smart home platforms operate via the cloud. This means that data about your home, heating, and energy use is sent to external servers. At Plugwise, we believe comfort and insight should never come at the expense of privacy. That’s why our products communicate entirely locally within your own network – without relying on the internet or external cloud services.
Integration via Home Assistant or Homey
We understand that many users want to combine multiple smart devices in a single environment. That’s why we offer full integrations with Home Assistant and Homey – two powerful platforms that can operate both locally and via the cloud.
With our integration, however, there’s no need to use the cloud. Plugwise devices share data locally within your own network, keeping your system secure, reliable, and independent. Through Home Assistant or Homey, you can also connect to Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa, if you wish.
Our philosophy
Plugwise deliberately chooses for:
Fully local operation – your data stays yours.
Secure and reliable – no cloud means fewer vulnerabilities.
Open integrations – connect Plugwise easily to other ecosystems via Home Assistant and Homey.
Smart, local, and privacy-friendly: that’s what Plugwise stands for.
